Infosys on Monday opened a development centre in Visakhapatnam and made its intent clear on the hybrid mode of work. The centre, which can accommodate about 1,000 employees, will provide greater flexibility to staff to work in a hybrid mode and closer to their homes. This comes days after the second-largest IT services firm said it is very flexible with its employees as far as mode of working is concerned.

Infosys, after posting its recent earnings, said that the company has been consistent and very clear that it remains very flexible with its employees as far as hybrid mode of work is concerned.

In stark contrast, TCS has asked all its employees to work from office on all working days. TCS has hired about 200,000 employees in the last 2 to 3 years, and according to reports, some didn’t come to office — one of the reason why the IT behemoth is mandating employees to come back to office.

In August, Infosys opened a centre of Infosys BPM, the business process management subsidiary of Infosys in Bhubaneswar. The company is expected to create 500 jobs in the first phase and take it up to 2,000 eventually. Similarly, it opened a new facility in Yelahanka in north Bengaluru to promote flexibility for employees staying close and encourage hybrid mode of work.

Nilanjan Roy, CFO, Infosys, said, “Aimed at bringing the workspace closer to Infoscions, this centre (Visakhapatnam) will further our approach towards creating hybrid workplaces, and also offer new opportunities to the local talent pool.”

Roy further added, “Visakhapatnam has developed into a favourable investment destination, and we are very grateful to the state government of Andhra Pradesh for extending their support as we commence our operations here.”

The company said the Visakhapatnam centre is spread across 83,750 sq ft and will also enable it to attract, reskill and upskill local talent to work on global opportunities via next-gen techs like cloud, AI and digital.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, chief minister, Andhra Pradesh, said, “The inauguration of Infosys’ Visakhapatnam DC is a landmark moment in the city’s growth story. We acknowledge the support of Infosys in giving impetus to the city’s IT landscape and developing its overall ecosystem through community building.”

Reddy added, “We are confident that this centre will not only give a massive boost to employment but will also strengthen Visakhapatnam’s sustainability story through Infosys’ ESG commitments and efforts.”
