Hartek Solar, a rooftop solar installations company and a subsidiary of Hartek group, is planning to foray into the green hydrogen segment and set up infrastructure for refuelling stations for the benign fuel, founder and chief executive officer Simarpreet Singh told FE in an interview. The firm is in discussions with refineries for the same.

“Our strategy in green hydrogen is very clear. We are targeting refuelling stations to start off with. For heavy mobility, trucks and buses, the government will install green hydrogen stations. That is where we want to start with,” Singh said. “We have already bid 2-3 projects for utilities and it is still awaited. We are in talks with some fertiliser companies, some refineries to understand demand.”

Recently, Hartek Solar bagged contracts for rooftop solar installations for 2,785 kilowatt peak power (kWp) from Winsome Industries in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.

Hartek Power, a sister unit of Hartek Solar, had also signed up some new EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contracts with Sterlite Power and Tata Power in Rajasthan for establishment of their substations, it said.

“Some of the projects are already underway, while some are very recent developments of this quarter and we can expect their completion in FY24 tentatively,” Singh said.

On the current situation of the solar industry, which had seen a slow pace of capacity addition in the first half, Singh noted that the sector needs to be careful going ahead.

For the projects that will be tendered out after March, the market will closely monitor solar module prices and the government’s decision on extending the deadline for ALMM (approved list of models and manufacturers). The company is proud of having a focused approach yet diversifying it’s portfolio within the power sector, noted Singh.

Hartek Group has set a target of achieving Rupees 10,000 crore sales by 2030. “We are on track to achieve Rupees 10,000 crore sales target and contribute to India’s growth,” Singh said.

The company is also in discussion with Power Grid and Amplus Solar to help them build their grid infrastructure. “There are a lot of grid infrastructure projects that we are doing. We are building a multiple 400 KV projects (‘Kilovolt) project for Power Grid,” Singh said. We are also in talks with a few large developers of the country for building their grid infrastructure, he added.

The company had earlier won an EPC contract from SJVN Green Energy for a 15MW floating solar power project in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.

It had also bagged a Rupees 80-crore contract to build 22 MW floating solar plant on the reservoir of the Bhakra Nangal dam, which is expected to commission in March 2024.

Hartek Solar specialises in design, engineering, and installation of industrial, commercial and floating solar rooftop system and is one of the country’s top solar installers.
