Amazon India has announced a fresh investment of Rs 2,000 crore (approximately $233 million) in 2025 to bolster its logistics infrastructure, technology capabilities, and employee welfare initiatives. The company aims to accelerate deliveries, streamline operations, and enhance customer experience across the country.

“We are positioning Amazon to better serve customers throughout India while supporting our employees, associates and partners who are the heart of it all,” said Abhinav Singh, vice president of operations for Amazon India and Australia.

A significant portion of the capital will go towards expanding and upgrading Amazon’s processing capacity, fulfilment centres, and last-mile delivery network. The company plans to launch new facilities and modernise existing ones to improve speed and efficiency in order processing and shipping. This is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in India, where the e-commerce market is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 20% and is projected to touch $325 billion by 2030.

Facing intensified competition from rivals like Flipkart, which is gearing up for an IPO, and Meesho, which dominates the value segment, Amazon is also trying to adapt to the rapid growth of quick commerce. Although it entered the segment later than others, the company is now focusing on enhancing its service capabilities to catch up.

Beyond infrastructure, the investment also targets employee and partner well-being. Amazon is developing a new app to encourage helmet use among delivery personnel and upgrading its driver app to provide clearer information on earnings and benefits. The company is also working on tools to assess route complexity and distribute delivery assignments more fairly, ensuring drivers have sufficient time for each delivery.

Amazon already operates several welfare programmes, including Samridhi for financial support, Ashray rest points for delivery agents, and Sushruta, which addresses the healthcare needs of truck drivers. It is currently running a free health check-up campaign expected to benefit 80,000 delivery partners and associates by the end of the year.
