Bharti Airtel on Tuesday said its anti-fraud initiatives have significantly reduced financial losses for its customers, with data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs, showing a 68.7% drop in losses and a 14.3% fall in overall cybercrime cases on the Airtel network.

The analysis compared key cybercrime indicators from September 2024 when Airtel launched its AI-powered fraud and spam detection system, with those from June 2025.

AI-powered solutions drive results

“We are on a mission of eliminating spam and financial frauds for our customers,” said Gopal Vittal, vice chairman and managing director, Bharti Airtel. “In the past one year, our AI-powered network solutions have identified over 48.3 billion spam calls and blocked 3.2 lakh fraudulent links. The impact shared by I4C encourages us tremendously and validates our efforts in this mission.”

Airtel launched India’s first network-based AI spam detection solution in September 2024, alerting customers in real time about suspected spam calls and messages. In May 2025, it followed up with a global first — a malicious link detection service that blocks harmful URLs across all forms of communication on its network. The service is integrated and auto-enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband users at no extra cost.

Continued focus on digital safety

Airtel, which serves over 600 million customers across 15 countries, said it will continue to invest in advanced AI-led network security as part of its broader digital safety strategy.
