Adani Green Energy (AGEL), the renewable energy arm of the Adani Group, intends to add 30 gigawatts (GW) of operating capacity at its Khavda plant in Gujarat by FY29, even as it operationalised 1 GW of solar energy at the facility.

The company will add 2GW renewable capacity this year, another 7GW in FY25, 13 GW in FY26, 18 GW in FY27, 25 GW in FY28 and 30 GW in FY29, according to a statement.

AGEL’s commissioning of 1 GW capacity at Khavda has taken its total operational capacity to 9.48 GW, spread across 12 states. The firm had earlier announced plans to commission a total of 45 GW by 2030.

AGEL delivered 1 GW in less than 12 months of commencing work, which involved installing about 2.4 million solar modules. The renewable energy plant at Khavda is the world’s largest, spanning 538 sq km, which is five times the size of Paris.

The project is expected to be completed in the next five years and will create over 15,200 green jobs. In February, AGEL had operationalised 551 MW solar capacity at Khavda by supplying power to the national grid.

AGEL is also building the world’s largest wind-solar hybrid cluster at Jaisalmer, it said.

In January, AGEL got shareholders’ approval to raise Rs 9,350 crore through issuance of preferential warrants to promoters. The company intended to use the funds to achieve its target of 45 GW green energy capacity by 2030 and for other capex plans.
