Bajaj Auto eyes podium finish in electric two-wheeler market

Bajaj Auto is aiming for the second spot in the electric two-wheeler market on the back of the recently launched 2024 Chetak variants, Urbane and Premium. 

At present, Ola Electric, TVS Motors and Ather Energy lead the market, each crossing the 100,000-unit sales mark in 2023. Bajaj Auto, followed closely with 71,420 units.

Deepika Warrier, marketing head, Bajaj Auto, said the company has grown its market share from 5.03% in January 2023 to 13.71% in December, reaching the third spot in that month. In December, Ola’s market share was at 40%, followed by TVS iQubes at 19.39%. 

Warrier said the new launches would enable the automaker to expand its share further. 

Bajaj has expanded its dealership network from 62 in December 2022 to 162 at present, across 133 towns from 43 a year ago. Warrier said they have seen significant sales on e-commerce platform Amazon as well. There has been growing interest in the Chetak from Tier 2 and 3 markets, Warrier said.  The company is now logging average monthly sales of 12,000 units of the Chetak, which could go up to 15,000 soon, according to
