MongoDB, at MongoDB.local London, has announced MongoDB Atlas for the Edge, a set of capabilities to deploy applications where real-time data is generated, processed, and stored.

According to an official release, organisations can use MongoDB Atlas for the Edge to build, deploy, and manage applications that are accessible virtually for use cases such as connected vehicles, smart factories, and supply chain optimisation. From what it’s understood, with MongoDB Atlas for the Edge, organisations can use a single interface to deliver an experience from the edge to the cloud, with the ability to build applications that can process, analyse, and synchronise virtually data across locations.

With MongoDB Atlas for the Edge, it’s believed that organisations can run applications on MongoDB using servers, such as those in remote warehouses or hospitals, in addition to edge infrastructure managed by cloud providers including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Sources suggest that with MongoDB Atlas Edge Server and Atlas Device Sync, organisations can use a data synchronisation layer for applications running on kiosks or on mobile and IoT devices to prevent data loss and improve offline application experiences. Moreover, MongoDB Atlas for the Edge seems to provide integrations with generative AI and machine learning technologies to provide low-latency, intelligent functionality on devices, even when network connectivity is unavailable. Reportedly, MongoDB Atlas for the Edge helps organisations ensure their edge deployments are secure with security capabilities.

“Atlas for the Edge aims to deliver a development experience across the data layer for applications running anywhere—from mobile devices, kiosks in retail locations, remote manufacturing facilities, and on-premises data centres all the way to the cloud. Now, customers can build and manage distributed applications using data at the edge with availability, resilience, and reliability—and without the complexity and lifting of managing edge deployments,” Sahir Azam, chief product officer, MongoDB, said.
