The Indian Army conducted a daring operation by rescuing 19 civilians who were trapped in Ela Resort and Vana Rani Resort. The area was located beyond the landslide-affected Mundakkai village in Kerala’s Wayanad district. As per local villagers and forest officials, the 122 Infantry Battalion (TA) Madras, led by Sub Jayesh, Sub Gijil, and Nb Sub Anil Kumar accompanied by 12 jawans carried out the drive with courage and determination.

Indian Army recovers 70 bodies, saves more than 1000 lives

The Indian Army has stated that they have recovered 70 bodies and have rescued more than one thousand people till now. The rescue team constructed a human bridge and used ropes to overcome the challenges of the flooding river. The initiatives by the Indian Army were taken to provide a safe evacuation route for all the people who were trapped in Chooralmala.
The Southern Naval Command has been requested to step in the rescue operations by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA). A team total of 68 personnel was sent off from INS Zamorin at Ezhimala to the landslide-affected place on July 30.

Alternatives military teams on standby, ALH deployed

The rescue team including medical members and skilled persons were also armed with the required equipment and reached the site on the same day. More teams have been kept as backups for deployment at short notice. An Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) has been deployed today from Kochi to Calicut to expedite the rescue operations.

The massive landslides in the Wayanad district have led to at least 150 deaths till now and more than 200 people have been injured. As per the latest report, the death toll is expected to increase as search operations are currently underway. Despite of adverse weather conditions, Indian Army along with the Indian Navy are all working together to help out the stranded people.
