The 2nd edition of the Namaste India Week Festival, organized by the Embassy of India in collaboration with Agora Mall, Santo Domingo, from April 8-12, 2024, exemplified the power of cultural exchange.
Ambassador Ramu Abbagani’s keynote address during the opening ceremony set the tone for a week of cultural immersion. The presence of top officials and guests from MIREX and various embassies underscored the significance of such initiatives in enhancing bilateral relations.
Sharing details Ambassador Abbagani told Financial Express Online, “the festival showcased Indian cultural heritage through various mediums. From an Indian Ethnic Fashion Show displaying handloom fabrics to stalls featuring Ayurvedic products, artefacts, jewellery, and traditional Indian cuisine, visitors experienced a slice of India.”
According to him, participation wasn’t merely passive; visitors actively engaged with Indian culture, indulging in activities like adorning themselves with traditional attire at the Sari Stall, exploring Indian culinary delights, and experiencing the intricate art of Henna application.
The festival’s success extended beyond the exhibition stalls. There were presentations, yoga sessions, talks, lectures, and performances by experts in Vedic chanting, Krishna Bhajans, meditation, and traditional Indian dance forms enriched visitors’ understanding of Indian culture.
With over 1500 visitors in attendance, the festival served as a platform for cultural exchange and dialogue. “It provided an opportunity for Dominicans to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Indian culture, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of its nuances,” said Ambassador Abbagani.
