Ananya Birla, entrepreneur and scion of the Aditya Birla Group, has formally announced her new role as Founder and Managing Director of Birla Cosmetics Private Limited (BCPL). The company, which currently houses the brands LOVETC and Contraband, marks her latest foray into India’s booming beauty and personal care market.
In a note posted this week, Birla shared: “I’ve started a new position as Founder, MD of Birla Cosmetics Private Limited, which currently houses brands, LOVETC and Contraband.” The announcement comes on the back of a flurry of activity from BCPL over the past year, signalling its ambitions to tap into India’s Rs 1.6 lakh crore beauty and personal care market, which is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10% over the next five years.
Who is Ananya Birla?
Birla, 30, began her professional journey with the Universal Music Group, launching her music career internationally, before becoming the brand ambassador for Maybelline New York in India. She later transitioned into the business world with ventures like Svatantra Microfin, a microfinance institution that focuses on empowering rural women, and Ikai Asai, a luxury design and lifestyle brand. Both positioned her as a young entrepreneur committed to social impact and cultural relevance.
In parallel, Birla has steadily risen through the ranks within the Aditya Birla Group. Since 2023, she has served as Director on the boards of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail and Grasim Industries. In 2024, she joined the board of Hindalco Industries, bringing with her a cross-sectoral perspective rooted in consumer insight, digital fluency, and new-age brand building.
LOVETC
This year, her personal venture, The Office of Ananya Birla, a unit within the Aditya Birla Group, entered the beauty space with the launch of LOVETC, positioned as a premium, inclusive cosmetics brand. Contraband, an earlier offering from BCPL, was launched as a gender-neutral fragrance and personal care line targeting Gen Z and millennial audiences.
With a dual focus on product innovation and deep consumer listening, Birla Cosmetics is positioning itself to take on legacy and new-age players alike in India’s highly competitive beauty sector.
