JetSynthesys has announced that Lenskart, co-founded by Peyush Bansal, will own the Delhi franchise in the second season of the Global e-Cricket Premier League (GEPL). The move marks Lenskart’s entry into esports, aligning with its focus on catering to digital-first audiences, including gamers.
GEPL, played on Real Cricket, has seen a fivefold increase in player interest compared to Season 1, with 910,000 participants. The inaugural season recorded over 200,000 registrations, featuring 48 elite players across eight teams. The tournament amassed 2.4 million minutes of streamed content on JioCinema and Sports18, reaching over 70 million viewers.
Rajan Navani, CEO and Founder of JetSynthesys, said that Lenskart’s involvement strengthens GEPL’s mission to expand esports in India. “Peyush Bansal’s visionary leadership, combined with cricket’s popularity, aligns with our goal of bringing esports to the masses, just like IPL did for traditional cricket,” he said.
Bansal noted that the eyewear brand’s entry into esports aligns with its product innovation. “Gamers spend long hours on screens, and our goal is to ensure they can enjoy their passion without compromising eye health. High-performance eyewear can help them play at their best,” he said.
GEPL League Commissioner Rohit Potphode called Lenskart’s entry a milestone, expecting it to bring fresh energy to the league.
Lenskart recently launched Phonic, an audio eyewear line, and aims to deepen engagement with digital consumers through this partnership. The upcoming GEPL season will feature an expanded team format, strategic enhancements, and a finale in March 2025, where top teams will compete for the title of ‘e-Cricket Icon.’
