Soumya Vilekar, former co-founder of Planet Marathi, has taken legal action against the company and its founder and director, Akshay Bardapurkar, over alleged financial mismanagement. She has filed a case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, accusing the company of issuing cheques worth around Rs 7 crore that were dishonoured. The case involves Planet Marathi Seller Services Pvt Ltd, the flagship entity of the brand.

Vilekar, who was instrumental in the company’s growth, resigned from all group companies in January 2024. However, financial disputes and delays in share transfers have continued to impact her. Alongside the cheque dishonour case, she has also initiated arbitration and criminal proceedings, citing unfulfilled financial commitments and contractual violations.

This is not the only legal trouble Planet Marathi is facing. Multiple cases have been filed by investors and vendors, alleging financial misappropriation. Among them are investor Santosh Kher from Dubai, entrepreneur and producer Deepa Tracy (related to the film Tararani), and media professional Ayush Shah. Their claims, along with others, amount to over Rs 30 crore. Some have also moved the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for insolvency proceedings against the company.

Speaking about the case, Vilekar said, “I had to take legal action after waiting for a year. I wanted a clean exit, but I have been dragged into ongoing legal and financial troubles due to unethical business practices. I just want a fair resolution and justice.”

As the legal battle unfolds, questions are being raised about financial transparency and corporate governance in the Marathi entertainment industry. More developments are expected as the case progresses.
