Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 draws global attention
The Maha Kumbh Mela, organised by the Uttar Pradesh government, continues to capture worldwide attention. Held once in 144 years, it is currently underway in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from 13 January to 26 February.
Key bathing rituals, known as Shahi Snan, commenced on 14 January during Makar Sankranti, followed by Mauni Amavasya on 29 January and Basant Panchami on 3 February. The Uttar Pradesh government anticipates a total footfall of 40 to 45 crore visitors throughout this grand spiritual gathering.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) estimates that the Mahakumbh Mela could generate revenue of Rs 1.2 lakh crore for Uttar Pradesh. Government projections suggest that the event may drive trade worth Rs 2 lakh crore if the anticipated 40 crore visitors spend an average of Rs 5,000 each.
