Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Malvika Jain, Founder & CEO, Sereko, talks to BrandWagon Online about her weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
When I’m not working, I love hitting the gym and exploring different kinds of workouts. It’s my way of maintaining balance—physically and mentally—and it keeps me energized and focused. It’s more than just exercise; it’s my reset button.
How do you spend your weekends?
I usually spend my weekends relaxing and enjoying quality time with family and friends. It’s the perfect way to recharge and connect with loved ones. I also enjoy stepping out and exploring new restaurants or hidden gems in the city, as it feels refreshing and adds a touch of spontaneity to my routine.
What are your favourite gadgets?
I have a soft spot for my noise-cancelling headphones. I can’t always step away from a chaotic environment – things are always buzzing at SEREKO HQ, so these headphones are a handbag staple for me. They’re essential for those moments when I need to focus or just unwind with some music.
Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
I was a lawyer before starting Sereko and I would have continued with the same profession if not for Sereko. Being a lawyer instilled in me analytical thinking, discipline, and a strong sense of justice, along with the determination to fight for the right thing—qualities that have been invaluable in shaping my entrepreneurial journey.
It’s about fighting for what you believe in, whether it’s in the courtroom or the boardroom.
Which is your favourite vacation spot?
I’m big on travelling, so this is a tough one for me—I take off whenever I get the chance and can never resist exploring new cities. There’s something about a European summer that keeps pulling me back. I think it’s the slower pace of life that makes it all the more relaxing.
Can you recommend a TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign?
I don’t watch a lot of TV or movies—I’d rather be on the move, and I try to limit screen time when it’s not work-related. But when I do, I always find myself going back to classic sitcoms. Modern Family and Schitt’s Creek crack me up every time.
I’m fascinated by the power dynamics in The Devil Wears Prada—every time I watch it, I pick up on a new, intriguing detail.
In the world of branding, I’m in awe of the Swiggy and Zomato back-and-forth. It’s cheeky, fresh, and a brilliant way to authentically engage with their audience. L’Oréal’s Worth It Resume campaign blew me away. It wasn’t just a campaign—it reshaped how I saw things for months after. Truly life-affirming.
