Giving a major boost to the domestic aviation sector, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has announced its summer schedule, boasting a notable 17% increase in weekly flight operations compared to the winter schedule. 

The bolstered schedule will be effected from March 31 to October 24, 2024, which would reflect the airport’s commitment to enhancing air travel connectivity.

“A total of 716 weekly ATMs (Air Traffic Movements) is the highlight of this schedule against 612 in the winter schedule, an official airport statement mentioned on Monday. 

With the rise in weekly Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), the airport is poised to accommodate heightened travel demands.

It is noteworthy that the new destinations will include Hanimaadhoo in the Maldives, alongside additional services to Bengaluru, Delhi, and Hyderabad in the domestic sector, and Abu Dhabi, Dammam, Kuwait, and Kuala Lumpur in international destinations, as mentioned in the airport’s announcement.

Surge in international travel 

In the international sector, air traffic movements are set to surge by 21%, increasing from the current level of 268 weekly ATMs to 324 for the summer period.

Meanwhile, at the same time, ATMs in the domestic sector are projected to rise by 14%, ascending from 344 weekly ATMs to 392 for summer. Furthermore, the airport is ramping up its daily services to Bengaluru, scaling up to 10 to meet growing passenger demand.

It is important to note that the airport recorded its highest number of passenger movements (post-Covid) in December 2023 at over 4 lakh.

During the same period, 2.42 lakh individuals were domestic travelers, and 1.72 lakh were international passengers out of a total of 4.14 lakh passengers, as stated by airport authorities.
