Noida International Airport (NIA) on Tuesday announced that state-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will lay a dedicated 35-km aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pipeline from its Piyala Terminal to the tank farm at the NIA in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

The dedicated ATF pipeline will be 34 km along with an extension of additional 1.2 km within the airport premises, Noida International Airport mentioned.

“The company has been the pioneer in setting up ATF facilities at airports and allied infrastructure in India since the time aviation industry took off in the country,” BPCL’s Director (Marketing) Sukhmal Jain said.

He also emphasised BPCL’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by minimising the road transportation of fuel and fostering a more sustainable future, according to the statement.

As per the official statement, an agreement was signed between the Noida Airport and BPCL on February 20 to efficiently meet the airport’s ATF requirements and reduce carbon emissions. BPCL’s Piyala terminal, situated in Faridabad (Haryana), will serve as the starting point for the pipeline.

Environment sustainability push

Once operational, the pipeline will serve on a common/contract carrier basis, ensuring smooth fuel transportation to the airport. The initiative aligns with Noida International Airport’s commitment to environmental sustainability by streamlining fuel receipt operations and reducing emissions associated with tank lorry movements.

NIA’s Chief Operating Officer Kiran Jain emphasised that this collaboration resonates with their strategic goal of providing cost-effective and sustainable solutions for liquid fuel transportation compared to road transport.

The Noida International Airport earlier last week also announced that it has entered into a concession agreement with Bird Group for providing ground-handling resources and services at the upcoming airport.

The greenfield airport is located some 75 km off Delhi along the Yamuna Expressway and is expected to open for commercial services after the first phase of development by the end of this year, according to officials.

Once fully completed, the airport will cater to 70 million passengers per year, officials mentioned.
