Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Airports Authority of India (AAI’s) newly developed Civil Aviation Research Organization (CARO) at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad today
Developed on an area of 39,080 sqm, the facility consists of the Research & Development (R&D) centre, recreation block and campus hostel to strengthen aviation research. The aviation research organisation will also forge collaboration with industry, educational, and research institutions while embracing the Make-in-India concept.
“This facility will assist Indian Civil Aviation to grow and reach new heights by creating an ecosystem, where indigenous technologies and methodologies will be developed in the near future,” PM Modi mentioned in a public rally in Sangareddy.
The CARO facility will generate new employment opportunities for the youth in the aviation industry and provide aviation startups with the right platform for research works and skill development, Modi said.
CARO’s key facets
Made with an investment of Rs 354 crore, CARO has been envisaged to provide a global research platform for the aviation community through in-house and collaborative research to provide indigenous and innovative solutions.
The facility has been set up at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad by the Airports Authority of India to upgrade and enhance the Research and Development (R&D) activities in the civil aviation sector.
Further, it is aimed at enhancing future research and development initiatives with its comprehensive laboratories. The state-of-the-art facility is compliant with a 5-star Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) rating and Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) norms.
CARO will also leverage data analytics capabilities for operational analysis, and performance measurement.
The primary R&D activities in the facility will include airspace and airport-related safety, capacity, and efficiency improvement programs, major airspace challenges, and infrastructure challenges among others.
