India’s low-cost carrier IndiGo Airlines has unveiled a new flight route, connecting Chandigarh to Dharamshala, eyeing enhanced accessibility and opportunities for both major cities. 

The inaugural flight received a warm welcome at Kangra-Gaggal Airport with a traditional water cannon salute, signifying a significant milestone in regional connectivity.

Announcing the details, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on X mentioned, “The commencement of this route is expected to enhance accessibility and promote tourism as well as business opportunities in the region.” 

It is noteworthy that the airline operates ATR flights to Himachal Pradesh to places such as Kangra (Gaggal near Dharamshala). These aircraft are compact and smaller in size as compared to other aircraft that the carrier operates.

Boosting regional connectivity 

The latest addition to IndiGo’s route network highlights the airline’s commitment to facilitating seamless travel experiences. The Chandigarh-Dharamshala route holds immense potential, serving as a gateway to the picturesque landscapes and cultural treasures of Himachal Pradesh.

Further, the launch holds promising implications for Chandigarh/ Haryana/ Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. For Chandigarh, it signifies strengthened connectivity with a popular tourist destination, opening doors for increased tourism influx and business engagements. 

On the other hand, Dharamshala is renowned for its spiritual charm, and breathtaking vistas. With the introduction of direct flights from Chandigarh, Dharamshala stands to benefit from a surge in tourism, bolstering its position as a premier destination.
