The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has served a show cause notice to IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, in response to an incident involving the serving of unsafe food to a passenger.

The move comes after a worm was found in a sandwich served on a flight, prompting widespread concern. The incident occurred on flight 6E 6107 from Delhi to Mumbai on December 29.

Following the passenger’s revelation on social media, IndiGo issued an apology and assured a thorough examination of the matter. The video shared by the passenger, Kushboo Gupta, showed a worm in the sandwich served onboard the flight.

FSSAI to suspend IndiGo’s license?

In response to the incident, the FSSAI issued a show cause notice to IndiGo, demanding an explanation as to why its license should not face suspension or cancellation.

The notice, issued on January 2, invoked the Food Safety & Standards (FSS) Act and cited the serving of unsafe food to a passenger. IndiGo has been given seven days to respond to the show cause notice.

On Wednesday, IndiGo acknowledged receiving the show cause notice and pledged to respond in accordance with the established protocol. The airline has faced increased scrutiny following the incident, emphasising the importance of adherence to food safety standards in the aviation industry.
