Gwalior is all set for a significant leap in its air connectivity with the opening of the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport in the next few days, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

Heralded the impending inauguration of the airport, and underscoring its importance in transforming Gwalior’s air travel landscape, the minister expressed his confidence that Gwalior is now connected with major cities around the country. 

“In three to four days, Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport will be working. You all will have the opportunity to witness and enjoy the new airport, which will be a significant milestone and achievement for Gwalior,” Scindia said. 

We anticipate a surge in passenger numbers, with several flights already witnessing encouraging traffic, the Union Minister added.

The significance of Gwalior airport 

The inauguration of the airport holds symbolic significance, positioning the region as a key catalyst for economic growth and tourism. 

Meanwhile, the preparations for the airport’s operationalisation are in full swing, with CISF personnel already stationed at the facility to ensure security and safety for passengers and staff alike. 

The modern amenities and infrastructure at the airport are poised to provide travelers with a seamless and comfortable experience, further enhancing Gwalior’s appeal as a destination of choice.

State-of-the-art terminal building

Starting April 2, 2024, the new state-of-the-art terminal building of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal at Gwalior Airport will be operational. 

The Rs 500 crore environment-friendly airport terminal will provide seamless connectivity between the old and new terminals of the airport. The new terminal, spanning an expansive 20,000 sqm, embodies a vision for sustainable aviation and regional progress.
