Due to severe rains, Delhi airport’s Terminal 1 roof fell, killing one person, according to sources. As a result, flight departures at Terminal 1 are delayed until 2:00 pm on Friday, June 28. According to the sources, the airport operator is planning to temporarily move operations from T1 to T2 and T3, and flight departures at T1, which only offers domestic airline operations, have been suspended until 2:00 pm.

“Due to heavy rain since early this morning, a portion of the canopy at the old departure forecourt of the Delhi airport’s Terminal-1 collapsed around 5 am. There are injuries reported and emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected,” a Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) spokesperson said in a statement.

Not long after the event with the roof fall, the flight departures were stopped. Those travellers who had already entered the terminal boarded their flights. All departures were entirely stopped around 7:30 am in the morning.

According to the sources, there has been no influence on flight arrivals. The DAIL spokesperson stated that as a precautionary measure, check-in desks have been closed and all departures from Terminal 1 are being suspended as a result of this event. “We sincerely regret this disruption and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” he said.
