The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is set to issue electronic licenses for Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) as part of its initiative to go paperless and embrace digital innovation.
This move aims to enhance operational efficiency by allowing ATCOs to easily access and manage their licenses on mobile electronic devices, such as smartphones and tablets.
The DGCA described this change not just as a regulatory update but as a significant transformation in the operational dynamics of air traffic management.
“In a transformative initiative, the DGCA is set to introduce the paperless Personnel License for Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs). This innovative move signifies a pivotal shift in the management of personnel licenses, ushering in an era of enhanced efficiency and modernisation within the Indian aviation landscape,” the statement said.
DGCA now has a fully digital platform
By transitioning from traditional paper-based systems to a fully digital platform, the electronic license will revolutionise license management for ATCOs. The licenses will be securely stored and easily accessible, enabling real-time updates and instant access to vital information.
The DGCA emphasised that this initiative aligns with its strategic vision of integrating technological innovation into its regulatory practices, propelling India’s civil aviation sector toward improved performance and global competitiveness.
Additionally, the digital license initiative supports the DGCA’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices by eliminating the need for printed licenses altogether.
