Parts of North India, including Delhi, were shrouded in dense fog on Friday (January 3), causing significant disruptions to flight and train operations in multiple locations.
Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory urging travelers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information before heading to the airport. The advisory stated that while flights and landings continue at the airport, those not equipped with CAT III technology may face delays or cancellations.
Flight cancellations, delay at Delhi airport
Major airlines like SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Air India experienced disruptions. According to FlightRadar24, Delhi Airport reported an average delay of 13 minutes for arriving flights and 45 minutes for departures as of 12 pm. As many as 225 departing flights have been delayed and 11 cancelled so far at IGI Airport.
SpiceJet warned passengers about potential delays for incoming and outgoing flights in Amritsar and Guwahati due to adverse weather, advising them to monitor their flight status.
IndiGo also issued a travel advisory cautioning passengers that dense fog could affect schedules in Amritsar and Guwahati. The airline mentioned that flights in Srinagar and Chandigarh were rescheduled due to low visibility. Travelers in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Lucknow were also advised to stay updated on flight statuses.
Air India echoed these warnings, urging passengers to verify flight schedules before traveling.
Indian Railways train services impacted
Train services were similarly impacted, with many departures and arrivals in Delhi delayed and some routes operating with revised timings.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that dense fog will persist across several cities, including Delhi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Amritsar, and Guwahati, on Friday. The IMD has also issued warnings for dense to very dense fog in various regions of Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, including cities like Kota, Amritsar, Sikar, and Ambala.
