Domestic carrier Alliance Air is expanding its network in Northeast India by introducing new connections from Imphal, the capital of Manipur, to three additional destinations.
Starting Wednesday, the airline will link Imphal with Kolkata, Guwahati, and Dimapur in Nagaland, as announced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The Chief Minister of Manipur highlighted that airfares have traditionally been high in the region, but with the new service, fares will be capped at Rs 5,000, offering significant benefits to local residents.
“Airfare is quite high (in Manipur). We have engaged with the Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved three locations. The price will be not more than Rs 5,000. People will benefit from it,” N Biren Singh said.
Northeast India to see boost in air connectivity
The new flights are expected to enhance travel, trade, and tourism in the Manipur region, facilitating easier connectivity to other parts of the country, the Ministry said in a post on X.
“Air connectivity is all set to expand in Northeast India. Alliance Air under the Ministry of Civil Aviation in a joint venture with State Govt of Manipur now provides connectivity from Imphal to Guwahati, Kolkata & Dimapur, & back effective 15th Jan 2025,” aviation ministry said in a post.
Currently, Indigo, Air India, and Air India Express operate flights from Imphal airport.
