IndiGo is evaluating introducing the gender-neutral option of honorific ‘Mx’ for internal candidates as part of larger efforts to boost inclusivity. Additionally, the airline which holds 62 per cent domestic market share, wants to double the number of individuals with disabilities employed by it.
Sukhjit S. Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, IndiGo, told PTI that the airline will be implementing the ‘Mx’ option for internal candidate. “This has strengthened candidate mobilisation through internal resources and fostered a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ employees. We partner with agencies specialising in LGBTQ+ recruitment,” he said.
As of now, ‘Mx’ is available to customers when booking tickets on Vistara and Air India Express.
According to Pasricha, IndiGo has put in place a number of efforts for the LGBTQ+ community, such as employee referral programs meant to promote employing LGBTQ+ people. He claims that LGBTQ+ people are steadily being hired by the airline and are performing a variety of jobs, including flying. “Our benefits like gender reassignment surgery, inclusion of live-in partners in the medical insurance, has created an even more inclusive space, and has been one of the attractive features in our outreach to aspiring candidates from the community,” he added.
He further said that Indigo has over 240 individuals with disabilities across more than 60 cities in customer facing roles. “The placement of individuals with disabilities is determined based on multiple factors, including safety, accommodation requirements, and skill mapping. We prioritise merit-based hiring and have primarily employed individuals with disabilities as customer service officers/executives for airport operations roles, with some also serving in cargo teams,” Pasricha stated.
The airline employed 36,860 people permanently as of March 31, 2024, comprising 5,038 pilots and 9,363 cabin crew members. Additionally, he stated that the airline’s goal for the upcoming fiscal year is to hire twice as many people with disabilities.
