The Uttar Pradesh government has gone on an overdrive to get the approval for Mayawati’s dream project, the Rs 5,000-crore greenfield Taj International Aviation Hub (TIAH) in Jewar.

Putting pressure on the Congress-led UPA government to grant its clearance to the project, the state government has said that it has already conveyed its willingness to accept and abide by all the contractual agreements that have been entered into by the Centre, ministry of civil aviation with the GMR Group, promoters of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

In a letter to the GoI, the state government has stated despite it having formally conveyed its willingness to handle the legal issues pertaining to the project to the Centre immediately after the Mayawati government came to power, the matter has been referred to the group of ministers, primarily to examine the contractual issues. The written communication, dated January 30, has been made by the infrastructure and industrial development commissioner Atul Kumar Gupta and it states that the state government would “like to reiterate that the Taj Expressway Authority shall be the sponsoring authority for the project … and for the avoidance of doubt and bidding documents for the selection of the developer for the proposed TIAH project would be suitably prepared by the UP government/Taj Expressway Authority.”
