The Haryana government plans to develop a global corridor along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway in the state for sector-specific parks and sub-cities to ensure that economic activities are developed in a systematic manner.
The 135-km long KMP Expressway, also known as the Western Peripheral Expressway, passes through six districts of Haryana, namely, Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal.
The 100-mt wide expressway will have a green belt of 100-meter each on both sides with a 100-mt wide orbital rail corridor towards Delhi.
The commissioner of Gurgaon division, DPS Nagal, met the deputy commissioners of all the six districts through which KMP expressway passes seeking a cumulative plan envisaging all aspects of development along the expressway.
Looking at the experience of the national capital region and the unabated growth of Delhi, there is a need to develop a global corridor with state of art facilities along the KMP expressway that can act as catalysts for development and attract private participation in the development of region, he said.
The spatial plan of the corridor will be developed around a number of specialised economic activities. Each activity is envisaged to be the focus of a self-sustaining cluster city.
A number of such cluster cities integrated under one umbrella will provide the overall spatial form of the urban corridor. According to a senior officer of Gurgaon district administration, the threshold population required for sustaining the physical and social infrastructure will govern the development of cluster cities.
5 theme cities have been proposed in the plan for Gurgaon district. These include a fashion city, an entertainment city, a world trade centre, a leisure city and a retail-merchandiser warehouse centre.
