In order to become market leader in the printer segment and scale up its share in laser printers to 30% from last year?s 20%, Samsung India Pvt Ltd has gone into a rollout mode. In the latest launch, it has come up with what it calls the world?s smallest printer with a price tag of Rs 5,499.

The company also announced the launch of 8 new printers under multi-function and network categories in an effort to see its volumes grow 58% over last year.

Addressing a press conference, Ranjit Yadav, director (mobile & IT), Samsung India, said, ?Our target is to become the number one player wherever we are in and this strategic and innovative products are aimed at making us the number one in the Indian printer market. With 80% of the printer market falling under entry-level category, we believe that our world’s smallest printer will help us to reach our target.?

?Samsung, already a dominant supplier in the multi-function laser printer products to both corporates and the government, will also become a number one in the smaller segment. With the eight new products, we expect to grow over 50% in 2010 in the printer segment and our IT business contribution to overall Samsung India?s turnover will touch 10% by year-end as against last year?s 8%,? he added.

He also said, ?We will focus more on small and medium businesses, the government sector and small office home office segment this year to achieve the target. For this, we will bank on our distribution system, channel partners and our products. We will also rope in systems integrators, local individuals to promote and enhance our sales throughout the country.?

According to Uday Bhat, general manager (IT solutions business), Samsung India, the smallest printer christened ML 1666 has been designed by the Indian R&D centre in collaboration with the Korean partner and made for the Indian market.

It can print 16 pages a minute and the starter toner can print up to 1,500 pages.
