Goel, elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, was spotted at the recently concluded monthly meeting of the BJP, where all current postholders and former Delhi unit chiefs were invited, fuelling speculation about his role in Delhi politics.
According to some MPs, Goel has been asking specific questions on Delhi in the Rajya Sabha, which is being seen as him preparaing for the post if the circumstances appear to be in his favour. He has not lost interest in Delhi and has been meeting the top brass to project himself as one of the contenders for the CMs post. His comments on migrant workers in Delhi created an uproar recently, on which he is issuing clarifications. With Harsh Vardhan in the Union Cabinet, the post is up for grabs, a senior BJP leader said.
Senior party leaders maintain that Mukhi has not lost all hope of becoming CM. With the party yet to elect its legislative party leader, Mukhi seem to be angling for the post and, later, stake claim to the post of CM, a leader said.
Mukhi has been meeting the top leadership as he believes that his chances of becoming CM are high if the BJP forms the government now, another leader said.
