Project Management Association (PMA) of India is making a serious endeavour to introduce project management as a separate specialised curriculum to create a poll of professionals in the country.

The president of PMA India, Adesh Jain, said project management has been accepted seriously as a professional course in United States of America, Japan, Germany and even in China. Unfortunately, it is yet to be introduced in India. According to him, as many as 75 universities in China have already included project management in their academic courses.

The PMA president said corporate houses have started giving priority to qualified project manager. Genpact has as many as 1500 CIPM certificate holders in its payroll. NTPC and L&T also have a number of CIPM-certified employees, he pointed out.

Jain, who was here on Saturday, was addressing a meeting convened for preparation of forming the Orissa chapter of the PMA. The meeting was presided over by former chief secretary of Orissa, SB Mishra. SAI International School director, Bijaya Sahoo, also graced the occasion.

Mishra said the Orissa chapter of PMA would be opened in the third week of April. Orissa governor, Muralidhar Chandrakanta Bhandare will inaugurate it, he said.

Former chairman of Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) DK Roy,former development commissioner Srinivas Rath, HDF B-school director Danada Mishra and PMA director Arvind Agarwal were present at the Saturday preparatory meeting.
