National Film Development Corp Ltd (NFDC), a government of India enterprise, has sought cooperation from IDBI Bank for producing and promoting movies. It has already submitted some proposals to the bank.

NFDC managing director Nina Lath Gupta said, “We have sought financial support from IDBI Bank for making short films. The bank has been promoting Indian films since it got industry status in

2000.”

IDBI Bank generally helps filmmakers by giving a loan of Rs 2 crore or half of the total budget.

NFDC makes movies in partnership with foreign organisations as well. In those cases, the total cost, which includes spends for promoting and marketing, is shared equally between the partners.

NFDC and its predecessor, the Film Finance Corp, have so far funded over 300 films in various Indian languages. Many of those won national and international awards.

According to Gupta, NFDC has come forward to encourage students of the Film & Television Institute of Pune and Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute. “We are inviting scripts from them”, Gupta said.

NDFC will organise the second edition of the Film Bazar in Goa from November 26-29. Gupta said the focus this year would be on co-productions.
