The two food parks at Rai in Sonepat and Saha in Ambala district being developed by the Haryana government are attracting industry bigwigs. An official spokesman said on Monday that all necessary facilities like electricity, water, roads and communication have been provided at the food parks, spread over 186 acres.

An official spokesman said these parks would be equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and the modern technology to cater to the food processing industry. These food parks are proving an ideal solution for all small and medium-scale entrepreneurs and industrialists with a food processing idea. He said the food park at Rai was being developed in the Sonepat industrial belt, just about 35 km from Delhi.

He said the Rai food park is spread over 116 acres. As many as 223 plots of different sizes varying between 312.5 square metres up to 11,025 square metres had been carved out in this park. Majority of the plots in the park stand allotted as on date. Some of the major units already in production in the park include Yakult Danone India and Unique Fragrances. Besides the above, a number of small units had also started production activities at the park. These units are primarily engaged in the manufacture and processing of pulses, rice, bread, fruits and vegetables. Other industry leaders included Bector Foods Specialties, Bikano Bakery and Namkeen, Kumar Foods and Reliance Industries. He said recently, Gail Gas and Toyo Seikan Kaisha had approached with a proposal for setting up a gas distribution centre and can manufacturing unit at the food park. As much as 16.60 acres had been allotted on leasehold basis to Fresh and Healthy Enterprise for setting up a specialised controlled atmosphere storage facility at Rai. This facility is the biggest facility of its kind in the country.

He said about 100 acres had been allotted in Kundli for setting up National Institute of Food Technology and Entrepreneurship Management (NIFTEM).

About the food park at Saha, he said it was spread over 70 acres. Out of 197 plots carved out, 135 plots stand allotted and 12 units are in operation. Some of the major units in operation include Epicu Food products.
