Amid speculation that the West Bengal Governor is among those told to step down, M K Narayanan did not reveal his mind Wednesday when questioned about his take on the reported move to remove UPA-appointed Governors by the new dispensation at the Centre.
?It is for the central government to decide. I cannot comment on that,? he said after watching a musical programme at Ballygunj in south Kolkata.
Earlier, while he was entering the auditorium, he said: ?I have not yet resigned. I will let you know when I do that.??
The Mamata Banerjee government, which had once put the Governor in the dock for taking an anti-government stand, stood by the Governor, saying his removal without consulting the state government was against constitutional norms.
?It is unconstitutional to change governors without consulting the state government,?? said state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim late Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee said: ?It is unfortunate that governors are being changed for narrow political gains and we condemn it.?
