India and Mexico on Monday signed an agreement to scale up trade and investment. An extradition treaty and accords to combat terrorism were also signed.
During his talks with Prime minister Manmohan Singh, Mexican President Felipe Calderon Hinojosa discussed a broad spectrum of bilateral and global issues. Both countries took a fresh look at lucrative opportunities offered by their growing economies.
With the extradition treaty, the two countries offer legal assistance to each other in criminal cases, including the acts of terrorism. External affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee and his Mexican counterpart Patricia Espinosa Cantellano inked the accords.
An agreement on double taxation avoidance was also signed. This pact is expected to spur the ongoing Indian investment and joint ventures in Mexico. It will also encourage the entry of Mexican companies into the Indian market.
