While Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand retains his world title in Bonn of Germany, Sayantan Das, the die-hard fan of Anand gives India honour by lifting achieving the crown of Under 12 event of World Youth Chess Championship in Vung Tau of Vietnam.
The international success of Sayantan, a Class VII student of Scottish Church School makes Bengal Peerless management impressed and that is why the company has come forward to assist him for the upliftment.
“Normally, the talents become the pawns of financial chess board and get vanished after few steps. Sponsors come after doing something. We hardly get sponsors for any kind of championship as Chess is not a spectators’ game. Inspite of that, Sayantan is really ray the drop of golden sun. His achievement will inspire others to join the discipline”, said Udayan Kanti Ghosh, general secretary, West Bengal Chess Association.
Sayantan, the budding player of 11 years knows that the steps of his future is quite expensive, but unaware of the figure. “I am interested to go in Spain for coaching and taking part in different tournaments. Currently, the number of meets in Spain is bigger than Russia”, he said.
“There is no such budget for him. We are inviting requirement through Alekhine Chess Club, where he practices. The amount is difficult to say as it is not an expenditure for a team. So, the allotment and disbursement will be eaqsier as it is being spent for an individual”, said Kumar Shankar Bagchi, managing director, Bengal Peerless Housing Development Company Ltd as well as president, Alekhine Chess Club.
“Besides taking part in different championship, we will also sponsor him for coaching, where he can develop him for other major tournaments”, Bagchi adds.
Accorrding to WBCA secretary, Sayantan will get some fecilities in different championships in India and overseas too due to his just earned honour. “The respective organisers will look after his entry fees, costs of hospitalities and air fare. But he needs money for his gurdian as he is a small chap. Yet, over Rs 5 lakh to be spent for him if he wants to go up”, Ghosh said.
