In order to strengthen its presence in global markets, Ashok Leyland plans to introduce a new engine platform that will come up in 2010. Christened Unitruck, it will span truck models from 16 tonne to 49 tonne. The new range will initially feature in the Newgen cab, before the company launches its next generation of modular cabs. As part of its strategy, the vehicle major will also incorporate a new family of six cylinder inline engines code named Neptune of modular capacity from 4.7 litre to 8 litre ? BS3 and BS4 / Euro IV compliant and protected for Euro-V. With higher power-to-weight ratio, superior cab ergonomics and trim, the new trucks will conform to European standards, and will spearhead our entry into developed markets, with competitive advantages in costs.
