P Mithra Reddy, founder-member and the intellectual face of Chiranjeevis Praja Rajyam Party quit on Saturday. He did not specify any reasons but said he no longer saw any role for himself in the party.

Grandson of CPI(M) stalwart Puchalapalli Sundariah, who fought for the rights of poor peasants till he died in 1985, Dr P Mithra Reddy is a London-returned professional doctor who flirted with the Lok Satta Party for a few years before joining Chiranjeevi. A communist, Dr Mithra helped Chiranjeevi in framing the partys policy and shaping the organisation.

Though appointed spokesperson along with Dr Parakala Prabhakar, Mithra apparently felt sidelined due to Chiranjeevis brother-in-law Allu Aravinds alleged stranglehold on the party. While Parakala quit alleging that there was no democracy and transparency in the party, Mithra had continued, assuring his support to Chiranjeevi at least till the elections are over. The PRP fared poorly in the recent elections winning only 18 Assembly seats and drawing a blank in the Lok Sabha.

I dont see any role for me any longer in the party. I am not quitting due to any reasons related to the functioning of the party, he said in his statement. The blame for the poll debacle has be shared by everyone, it should not be put on one individual.

There are reports that P Vinay Shankar, son of former Union minister P Shiv Shankar, is also quitting the party.
