HAL will deliver the first batch of 8 Tejas Mk1A fighter jets in 24-36 months, with production expected to ramp up later. The company signed a contract worth Rs 62,400 crore with the Defence Ministry for supply of 97 jets and with General Electric for 113 engines. Slow production and delayed engine contract are reasons for the initial delay. Final deliveries expected by late 2032.
