Nitish Kumar

Nitish Kumar is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Bihar, one of India’s most populous states. He is a prominent leader of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] party and has played a significant role in both state and national politics. Known for his administrative skills and governance-focused leadership, Nitish Kumar has been in and out of power in Bihar multiple times.

Earlier this year in January, Nitish Kumar once again resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar. His party Janata Dal (United), severed ties with Lalu Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He staked claim to form the next government, with the BJP as the new alliance partner and became the Bihar CM for a record ninth time. Last time, Nitish resigned on August 9, 2022, and took over as chief minister a day later. That government survived for 537 days.

Nitish Kumar’s political career has been marked by his ability to form and break alliances, his focus on good governance in Bihar, and his potential as a national leader in Indian politics.
