Portugal is keen on attracting more Indian investments in pharmaceuticals and information technology.
“We want more Indian investments in the pharmaceutical and IT sectors,” said Luis Filipe Castro Mendes, Portugal’s ambassador to India.
“We also want to attract more tourists from India,” said Mendes. “We want to be in the top 15 in a few years.”
“In 2006, 40.2 million tourists from across the world visited Portugal. We expect tourism to grow 7% in the next 10 years,” Mendes told reporters at a press meet organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry on Saturday.
When asked about Bengal, he said: “We want to invest and form joint ventures in sectors like leather, textiles, IT and ITeS.”
Indian companies like Wipro Technologies, Ranbaxy and Tata Consultancy Services have offices in Portugal.
Portugal’s Efacec is present here in a joint venture with Godrej providing warehousing, automated storage and retrieval system solutions.
