Indian Bank will soon be opening a branch in Jaffna. Bank has already received the nod from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in this regard. Indian Bank which has played a pivotal role in the formation of more than 4,50,000 SHGs and financing them through its 29 exclusive microsate branches in India will replicate a similar model in Jaffna.

Indian Bank chairman & MD T M Bhasin in his recent visit to Sri Lanka said the new branch would adopt a different model to its Jaffna operations by forming and lending to SHGs. Bhasin further added that the bank will deploy deposits garnered from Jaffna, in Jaffna itself to help the economic and upgrade the lives of the people there.
