Mumbai, Aug 8 : Scientists and researchers need to work on breakthrough technologies like nanotechnology and biotechnology in order to lower the levels of green gas emissions, President Pratibha Patil said on Friday. She also mentioned that the initiative by IIT Mumbai to introduce a program on crime and crime prevention is an important step to address the issue. Patil also said telecom has reached rural India and it has helped farmers to know the weather forecast and market status, but there is still a need for more technology advancements for the rural areas. “Farmers even today face difficulties like floods, pests and lower yields and therefore, there is a need for cutting-edge technologies for the rural India,” she said. The President also complimented the opening of eight IIT schools and said that the expansion will enable students of the nation to obtain high quality education. “I hope that the existing IITs will provide support and share experiences in the initial years with the new IITs so that they too can have the same excellence,” she added.
