US President Donald Trump, while lashing out at India via a Truth Social post, also warned Russia’s former president Medvedev. “Tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!” Trump said in the post on Thursday.
Who is Dmitry Medvedev?
Putin‘s ally, Dmitry Medvedev served as the Russian president from 2008 to 2012 and is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council. Medvedev, is known for putting out his outspoken opinions on social media. Earlier he had mocked Trump when he had shortened the deadline for Russia to end the war in Ukraine or face serious economic consequences.
Responding online, Medvedev said Trump was making a big mistake by issuing ultimatums to Russia, which is not like Israel or Iran. He warned that every new threat only increases the risk of war, not just with Ukraine, but potentially with the United States itself. He also urged Trump not to follow the path of President Biden, whom he referred to mockingly.
Responding to this, Trump on Thursday said that he needed to watch his words as otherwise he might be entering “a dangerous territory”.
Medvedev fires back at Trump’ ‘dead economies’ comment
Medvedev responded to Trump’s threat through a post on his Telegram channel. He began by commenting on Trump’s message to him on Truth Social, a platform that’s banned in Russia. Medvedev suggested that if a former Russian leader’s words could trigger such a strong reaction from the US President, it only proved that Russia was on the right track and would continue moving forward.
He also mocked Trump’s remarks about the ‘weak “dead economies” of India and Russia and the idea of entering dangerous territory. Medvedev sarcastically referred to Trump’s love for zombie movies and hinted that even something imaginary, like the “Dead Hand,” could still seem threatening to him. “And as for the talk about the “dead economies” of India and Russia, and “entering dangerous territory” — maybe he should recall his favorite movies about “the walking dead,” and also remember how dangerous the so-called “Dead Hand,” which doesn’t even exist, could be,” he said.
