An American tourist tried his best to protect two women being violently assaulted on German public transit in the city of Dresden early Sunday (US time). The “hero” in the picture has since been identified as New York City model John Rudat. Unfortunately for the 21-year-old man, his heroic deed ultimately landed in the hospital, as he stepped in to confront one of the men harassing female passengers.
According to an online fundraiser set up by Molly, the girlfriend of Rudat’s brother, the 21-year-old was stabbed as he intervened to stop the violent undertaking. Pictures released so far further revealed that John was left with chilling facial injuries.
“John sustained critical injuries from his attempts to protect these females, including a deep facial wound from a 6-inch blade, requiring immediate and extensive surgery in Germany,” Molly, who is a fellow first responder, shared via the GoFundMe campaign.
Rudat has since spoken out about who attacked him on the German tram.
Who is John Rudat?
The 21-year-old is a part-time model, and a newly qualified paramedic. He goes by “@john.rudat” on Instagram, where he currently has a following of nearly 8,000. As per his profile’s bio, Rudat is managed by Taylor Kelsaw Management. Having recently made headlines for surviving a near-fatal stabbing, the NY-based professional now also has a new X account with the handle “@JohnathonRudat.”
As per the videos John shared on social media, he was staying in Dresden with the family that once hosted him for a foreign exchange program. His recent interview with Twisted Male Magazine indicates the 21-year-old was born in Niskayuna, New York. During his formative years, he learnt judo for nearly a decade at the Jason Morris Judo Center in East Glenville, New York.
At one point or another, he even worked with the Dresden City Fire Brigade and fought MMA bouts in Germany.
Rudat’s brother, Logan, was not at all surprised by John’s actions in Germany. He told the New York Post that the model’s decision to intervene was just who he was. “It’s part of his character. That’s just the way we were raised,” Logan said.
Who attacked John Rudat in Germany?
Taking his story to social media, Rudat broke his silence on Instagram reels, saying, “If you didn’t think Europe had an immigration problem, especially Germany, let me drop some knowledge on you.”
He went on to divulge that the man who allegedly assaulted two women on German public transport was going to be released from custody because “he’s not a citizen of Germany,” and not even a citizen of Europe at large.
“He’s an illegal one, a drug dealer and very popularly known here, especially by the police,” he said of the suspected perpetrator who not only stabbed him, but also harassed women on a German tram.
As further reported by the New York Post, one of the suspected attackers linked to the bloody Germany incident is a 21-year-old Syrian national. Although both male suspects fled the scene, but was one of them was later arrested after he allegedly beat up Rudat. The suspected attacker’s accomplice is then believed to have returned to the scene and stabbed John.
Much like Rudat’s account, the German outlet Bild reported over the weekend that the suspect originally taken into custody was released by prosecutors over a lack of evidence linking him to the stabbing. “According to the on-call public prosecutor’s assessment, there were insufficient grounds for detention. The knife attack cannot be attributed to him,” said Senior Public Prosecutor Jurgen Schmidt.
This is an ongoing investigation.
