US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, was shot three times in the face and was not the target of any enforcement action, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

While US President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem defended the incident, saying that the woman “tried to run over the ICE officer” and that his move was in self-defence, viral videos contradict their claims. But before we share what Trump and DHS Secretary Noem have said, let us take a look at the viral videos.

‘You did a murder for what?’: Chilling video goes viral

One of the now-viral videos opens to show ICE officers getting out of a vehicle and approaching an SUV that was blocking the road. An agent is heard ordering the driver to get out before attempting to open the SUV’s door as the vehicle starts to move. Moments later, another ICE agent standing near the front of the SUV fires three shots into the driver’s side window. Renee Good was hit by the gunfire and later succumbed to her injuries.

As the video goes on, the woman, who is probably recording the entire incident, appears stunned and can be heard exclaiming, “Shit. Oh my f****** god.”

With the driver unable to maintain control, the SUV crashed into several vehicles further down the street. Amid the chaos, one person can be heard asking an ICE officer, “What did you do?” though from a distance.

In yet another clip, another woman can be demanding that ICE agents leave the neighbourhood when the gunshots were fired. “No! No! Shame! Shame!” said a woman as gunshots rang out.

A man, towards the end of the video amid the chaos, can be heard yelling, “Dude, you did a murder! For what?!”

A third video, over four minutes long, captures the same incident in greater detail. It shows an ICE agent fatally shooting a woman who was seated inside her car. As the agent attempted to open the vehicle, she tried to flee, after which shots were fired. The footage also records angry bystanders confronting ICE officers and demanding answers. “Do you have any conscience? You shot her in the face,” a woman can be heard saying.

Renee Nicole Good was a Minneapolis resident who was present near the site of an ICE raid on Wednesday as protests began to erupt. Good, a mother of three, was reportedly accompanied by her spouse at the time. Her mother said Renee had three children and was not affiliated with any ICE protest groups.

Trump defends ICE shooting

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, defended the ICE officer, saying that he had seen the video and that the fatal shooting stemmed from self-defence. “I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch,” Trump said in a Truth Social post, adding, “The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defence.”

He said that although the “situation is being studied”, such incidents are happening because the “Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis”.

Trump said that ICE agents are simply doing their duty to make “America safe” and urged the people to stand by them.

‘Act of domestic terrorism,’ DHS Secretary Kristi Noem

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem also termed the victims action an act of “domestic terrorism”.

“It was an act of domestic terrorism. What happened was our ICE officers were out in enforcement action. They got stuck in the snow because of the adverse weather that is in Minneapolis,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement.

The statement added, “They were attempting to push out their vehicle, and a woman attacked them and those surrounding them and attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle. An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively shot to protect himself and the people around him. My understanding is, is that she was hit and is deceased.”

‘Trying to spin it as self-defence’: Mayor Jacob

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said that he has seen the video and that it shows a different reality. “They are already trying to spin this as self-defence,” Frey said at a news conference before adding, “Having seen the video myself, I want to say this clearly — that is bullshit.”

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), he added, “We’re demanding ICE to leave the city immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities.”

‘Latest horror in a year full of cruelty,’ says Zohran Mamdani

“This morning, an ICE agent murdered a woman in Minneapolis—only the latest horror in a year full of cruelty,” NYC Mayor Zoharan Mamdani said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He added, “As ICE attacks our neighbours across America, it is an attack on us all. New York stands with immigrants today, and every day that follows.”
