President Donald Trump commented on the death of legendary film director Rob Reiner, who was found dead Sunday afternoon in his Brentwood home along with his wife, Michele Singer. Trump criticised Reiner, a longtime opponent of his politics and a supporter of Democratic causes, in a post on social media on Monday, accusing him of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
What was Trump’s comments?
Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
US president continued his remarks by claiming Reiner had been obsessed with him and angered many people because of his opposition to the Trump administration.
“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Reiner vs Trump
Reiner had frequently spoken out against Trump and his policies. In a recent interview with MSNBC, the director warned that the US could become an autocracy if Trump gained more control over institutions. “Make no mistake; we have a year before this country becomes a full-on autocracy, and democracy completely leaves us,” Reiner told MSNBC (since renamed MS NOW) in October. “And we’re looking at the election in 2026, and Donald Trump knows that in a free and fair election, he will lose. He will lose the House, the House will flip and will become in Democratic hands. There will be committee chairs who will be able to hold meetings, and this is the last thing he wants.”
Police investigate deaths as homicide
Los Angeles Police Department said the deaths of Reiner and Singer are being investigated as a homicide. The couple was reportedly stabbed to death. Son arrested in connection with investigation. Nick Reiner, the couple’s 32-year-old son, was arrested Sunday night at 9:15 p.m. and booked on a felony charge early Monday morning, according to LAPD online records. Police have not confirmed whether Nick Reiner is directly connected to the homicide investigation but listed his booking description as “gang activity.” His bail has been set at $4 million.
