It seems US President Donald Trump is all set for his another big mission amid attempts to solve conflicts across the world – South Korea and North Korea. Trump, since his return, has been engaged as a mediator in a number of conflicts across the world, including the Russia-Ukraine war. He also claimed to have played a role in the understanding of the ceasefire reached between India and Pakistan, after Operation Sindoor. However, India has denied any interference, stating that the understanding was a mutual decision.

Yet, Trump has claimed to resolve the issue over 20 times, adding that he is the biggest peacemaker, and so deserves the Nobel Peace Prize

While his efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis are underway in forms of multiple meetings, he welcomed Lee Jae Myung, the new president of South Korea, to the White House on Monday afternoon for talks. The bilateral meet is expected to focus on trade and defense.

But, more than that, Trump seemed to have shown his interest in making the US a part of another years’ old conflict between South and North Korea, reported Reuters.

What did Trump say?

Hours before his meeting, Trump took to TruthSocial and said that a “Purge or Revolution” was taking place in South Korea and threatened not to do business with Seoul.

While it was not clear what he meant, it was seen as a message to South Korea which had been in a state of political turmoil for the last several months. Its former leader, the conservative Yoon Suk Yeol, was ousted from office after imposing martial law last December.

“Think we can do something in North and South Korea,” the US President was quoted as saying on Thursday.  He added that he would meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and may discuss the conflict.

Not only this, he added that the US “might want to ask South Kore for ownership of land where we have a fort”.

‘Only Trump can…’: South Korean President

Meanwhile, speaking after the meeting, South Korean president Lee Jae Myung said that only Trump can solve North Korea’s issue. He said things went South after Trump left office after his first tenure as the US President.

“Trump is the only person who can solve the North Korean issue,” Lee said, adding that they “hope Trump would open a new day of peace on the Korean peninsula”.

Calling Trump a peacemaker, Lee said that the situation in the Korean peninsula worsened “after Trump left office”.
