A JetBlue flight headed to Newark, New Jersey, was diverted to Tampa, Florida, last minute in an emergency landing maneuvre on Thursday (US time). According to the airline’s statement, the sudden change in the plane’s journey was attributed to an unexpected drop in altitude.

Multiple passengers injured: JetBlue flight emergency landing

As per an ABC News report, pilots shared with air traffic controllers that at least 3 passengers had been injured with possible lacerations. “We’ve got at least three people injured. It seems like maybe a laceration in the head,” highlighted air traffic audio from a radio call captured by LiveATC.net.

The aircraft has started its journey from Cancun in Mexico and was meant to originally land at Newark Liberty International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has since confirmed that the plane was ultimately diverted to Tampa International Airport around 2 pm local time.

With Airbus A320 successfully landing in Florida, some passengers were taken to the hospital. In light of the now-commenced investigation, the flight has been grounded, with the pilots disclosing that the mid-air was linked to a flight control issue instead of any potential weather hazards.

“JetBlue Airlines Flight 1230 diverted to Tampa International Airport around 2:00 p.m. local time on Oct. 30 after the crew experienced a flight control issue,” the FAA said, initiating its investigation into the matter.

After medical personnel evaluated passengers and crew members at the airport, JetBlue issued the following statement: “Our team has taken the aircraft out of service for inspection, and we will conduct a full investigation to determine the cause. The safety of our customers and crewmembers is always our first priority, and we will work to support those involved.”

This is a developing story.
