A mystery bearded man, who appeared to be cheering moments after Charlie Kirk was shot at a Utah Valley University event, has now come on social media explaining the reasons behind his actions.
Identifying himself as David on X, he insists he was not celebrating the violence but was instead shouting “USA” to create a distraction that could help “save lives.”

What is David’s explanation?
David recounts his first moments after hearing the gunshot. “When I heard a sharp crack, at first I thought it might have been fireworks or a disruptive prank,” he says, wearing what looks like the same tan-coloured backwards cap seen in the viral video.
He says he scanned the horizon for smoke but saw none, leading him to realise the noise was a firearm. “I looked up to the horizon for smoke. When none appeared, I realised it must have been a firearm,” he explains in a monotone voice.
Based on his friend’s reaction, David believed that Charlie Kirk had been seriously hurt. “I believed Charlie had been gravely injured,” he says, adding that he instinctively “checked the security team’s movement” before standing up.
Although he admits to being only “minimally familiar with Kirk’s content,” David added that “I would never wish to celebrate harm to anyone.”
Later, David posted a longer, more emotional video where he described himself as “the happiest person you ever met in your entire life” but expressed frustration with ongoing mockery surrounding such tragedies.
He lamented, “I’m sick of my soldiers, including Charlie, dying so you guys can mock each other. Mock, mock, mock.”
David also called out public figures such as John Oliver, Matt Walsh, and Steven Crowder, blaming them for contributing to “mockery … on both sides of the equation” that he believes is “killing my soldiers, my people.”
However, he did not clarify who exactly his “soldiers” are.
FBI names Tyler Robinson as the suspect
Within 33 hours of shooting, FBI named 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a Utah-based student, as the suspect in the shooting. Charlie Kirk was shot on Wednesday during a live Q&A at Utah Valley University.
Known for his conservative commentary and being a close ally of Trump, he also found the organisation called Turning point USA.
Meanwhile, his wife, Erika Kirk, addressed the public earlier today and said, “The world is evil. But our Saviour, our Lord, our God… He is so good. I will never have the words. Ever.
The sound of this widow weeping echoes throughout this world like a battle cry.” She further added, “If they thought my husband’s mission was big now… you have no idea. You will never, ever forget my husband. I’ll make sure of it.”
