Within hours of posting a single photo on the social media platform X, billionaire Elon Musk had the Internet buzzing. “The Boys Are Back,” many exclaimed joyously in the comments, as a picture offering a glimpse of the Tesla CEO’s reunion with US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump went viral online.
“Had a lovely dinner last with @POTUS and @FLOTUS. 2026 is going to be amazing!” Elon Musk wrote on X alongside a rather low quality picture of himself, Trump and Melania. The image instantly became a talking point among netizens on SNS as it left no doubt in their minds about the former DOGE head rekindling his seemingly strained ties with the American president.
Elon Musk-Trump bromance back on track with Mar-a-Lago dinner?
Though shared on Sunday, the picture potentially proving that Elon Musk has reprised his ‘First Buddy’ status in connection with Trump, (US time), was taken at a Saturday event. The January 10 evening gathering marked the Space X boss’ another return to Mar-a-Lago in Florida despite having set ablaze a public feud with Trump over the so-called Jeffrey Epstein Files earlier.
Other than the photo Musk shared himself on X, videos of him walking beside Donald and Melania Trump at the Mar-a-Lago party also surfaced on the Internet.
I actually posted about this last night and people were saying it was fake.https://t.co/5NdpRXWuDG

Just months back, Musk pushed out a series of scathing social media posts targeting Trump for his past friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public,” he wrote in one such post in June. “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out,” he added in a follow-up text.
Even beyond his criticism of the Trump administration over the lack of transparency regarding the Epstein Files, Musk had also charged at the POTUS for his “big beautiful bill. Once the Tesla founder called the Congressional bill “massive, outrageous, pork-filled” and “a disgusting abomination,” Trump hit back at him saying, “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.”
Musk, who poured in hundreds of millions of dollars into Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, in turn, fumed on X: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.”
As their war of words amplified due to multiple factors, Musk even brought up the idea of forming a third US political party at one point. However, his Saturday Mar-a-Lago reunion with Trump isn’t the first time he’s signalled at tensions thawing between them.
Elon Musk back on the Republican side
Back in July, the billionaire blasted the existing political power dynamics, writing on X, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it. When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”
However, in the past few months, he seems to have shifted his tone, aligning with the Republican cause once again. Just earlier this week, he declared on X, “America is toast if the radical left wins. They will open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud. Won’t be America anymore.”
Moreover, he re-shared a conservative influencer’s post claiming that the tech mogul was “going all-in” on funding Republicans in 2026, thereby seemingly confirming previous reports on the issue.
These supposed confirmations poured in merely weeks after Axios posted an exclusive scoop titled, “Musk diving into 2026 midterms for the GOP.” Although the report didn’t disclose the extent of his donations, it said, “The tech billionaire recently cut big checks to help Republicans win congressional races next year and indicated he’d give more throughout the 2026 cycle, two sources with knowledge of the situation tell Axios.”
In November, Musk was included among many other A-listers from different walks of life at a White House dinner where Trump hosted Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Even before that, the duo was spotted shaking hands at the late Charlie Kirk’s memorial service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Additionally, Musk even grabbed the headlines for publicly congratulating the US president after the recent turn on events in Venezuela.
“Congratulations, President Trump! This is a win for the world and a clear message to evil dictators everywhere,” the tech baron wrote online after an announcement revealed that the US had launched an overnight military operation against Venezuela. The developments also resulted in President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores, being captured.
Internet reacts to Elon Musk-Donald Trump reunion
Far-left influencer Harry Sisson again turned on Musk, commenting under his post: “So you dined with someone you said is in the Epstein files????” But other Trump and Musk supporters were happy to see “the band back together.”
Conspiracy theorist and staunch Trump ally Laura Loomer wrote: “Nice to see you made up.”
Other MAGA campers chimed in: “DOGE 2.0 was always inevitable.” More comments like “The Band is back together boys and Trump and Elon are on a mission from God!” and “2026 will be a banger” were a big hit as well.
Even American singer Cherie Currie, who led the vocals for the rock band The Runaways, cheered online: “The love we have for you @elonmusk and our President is beyond measure. You will go down in history as the most influential man along side DJT. I am so blessed to be 66 years young and able to see this amazing and historical friendship for THE PEOPLE!”
